Madrid has welcomed more than one million tourists from the United States in a single year for the first time ever. Specifically, 1,083,418 U.S. tourists visited Madrid in 2024, reflecting a 14.3% increase compared to 2023, which had already experienced a remarkable 26% growth over 2022. American travelers now account for 12.3% of all international visitors, positioning the United States as Madrid’s top inbound market, ahead of major European cities.
American tourists are recognized as high-value travelers who seek out both cultural experiences and leisure activities. Their affinity for Madrid’s renowned attractions is evident, as they represent the largest group of international visitors to the Prado Museum. This growing engagement underscores the city’s ability to cater to discerning travelers who prioritize world-class museums, historic landmarks, and exceptional dining experiences.
Madrid’s increasing appeal as a tourism hotspot is further reinforced by substantial investments in its hospitality sector by major U.S. hotel chains. Hilton currently operates seven hotels in the city, while Marriott International has a strong presence with 21 properties, including seven five-star establishments. Hyatt maintains a notable footprint with three hotels, and Choice Hotels International offers nine locations.
Looking ahead, U.S. investment in Madrid’s luxury hospitality sector continues to grow, bringing new high-end experiences to the city. This year, the highly anticipated Nobu Hotel Madrid, Co-founded by actor Robert De Niro, will open, featuring a three-level Nobu restaurant, a rooftop lounge with skyline views, and a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa. Additionally, UMusic Hotels, a joint venture between Universal Music Group and Dakia U-Ventures, is expanding its presence in Madrid with plans to open a second location, UMusic Hotel Teatro Reina Victoria, in 2027. These developments highlight Madrid’s rising status in luxury hospitality and the continued growth of U.S. investment in its tourism industry.
Madrid’s world-class infrastructure and hospitality offerings have also earned international recognition. The city has been named the World’s Leading Meetings &
Conference Destination at the prestigious World Travel Awards for the sixth consecutive year in 2024. This achievement highlights Madrid’s excellence in hosting
professional meetings and large-scale international events, reinforcing its status as a premier business travel destination.
Madrid’s remarkable growth in U.S. tourism and hospitality investment reflects its unique appeal as both a travel destination and a business hub. As American tourists continue to explore its vibrant culture and world-class attractions, and U.S. hotel brands further invest in its hospitality sector, Madrid solidifies its reputation as one of the most dynamic and sought-after cities in Europe.
