Business creation: Madrid confirms its strength in 2025

The Madrid region recorded more than 2,150 new companies in September 2025, representing an annual increase of 11.9%. A trend that confirms the entrepreneurial dynamism of the territory

According to the latest data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the Community of Madrid registered 2,159 new companies created in September—almost 12% more than a year earlier. This level once again places the region among the main drivers of business creation in Spain, where performance varies widely from one territory to another.

Growing sectors fueling the region’s momentum

At the national level, INE data show that real estate, financial and insurance activities accounted for 18.5% of all new companies created in September, ahead of the commerce sector (16.8%). Madrid aligns with these national trends but also benefits from specific accelerators.

In 2023, the region recorded 233 greenfield projects, a 63% increase compared with the previous year, representing more than €3.8 billion in investment and 13,600 jobs created. These figures illustrate the growing importance of tech, digital services, and infrastructure in shaping Madrid’s economic landscape. This momentum is also driving other high-value-added segments such as fintech, digital solutions, logistics, real estate, and business services, now identified as key pillars of the region’s growth.

A major hub for foreign investors

This local vitality is matched by strong international attractiveness. The Footprint of Foreign Investment in the Madrid Region (2025) report underscores the region’s leading position in foreign investment received by Spain:

  • 5% of cumulative foreign productive investment flows since 1993,
  • 9% of Spain’s total stock of FDI,
  • 15,548 foreign-capital companies established in the region, representing 43.5% of the national total.

Among foreign investors, Germany occupies a prominent position. During the 2025 Hannover Messe, Madrid authorities highlighted the steady growth of German-origin projects, attracted by the region’s technological ecosystem, the availability of international talent, and local innovation strategies.

A supportive environment for business expansion

Beyond economic indicators, Madrid continues to strengthen its institutional framework to support business establishment. Last year, the city approved a €2.6 million support program aimed at helping innovative SMEs modernize their technological capabilities. Combined with the rebound in business creation and the expansion of technology-driven industries, these measures reinforce the attractiveness of the Spanish capital. In a context where international investment plays an increasingly decisive role, Madrid stands out more than ever as a strategic destination for entrepreneurs and foreign companies.
