BASF Continues to Grow in Madrid

As one of the largest chemical companies in the world, BASF chose Madrid in 2019 to launch its first international digital hub. Since then, the Madrid Digital Hub has experienced uninterrupted growth, becoming a strategic pillar in the group’s global digital transformation journey, with even more expansion plans underway.

As part of its global development strategy, BASF set up its Madrid Digital Hub to accelerate the company’s digital innovation and transformation initiatives. The project has been highly successful: what started with just around a dozen employees has now grown into a diverse and dynamic team of nearly 700 staff members representing over 50 nationalities (including India, Germany, Brazil — and of course Spain). This achievement places Madrid among BASF’s major digital hubs worldwide, alongside Ludwigshafen, Kuala Lumpur, Toronto, Nanjing, and Montevideo, reinforcing its global network of innovation centers.

In September 2023, BASF’s teams moved into their new offices within the Novus building, located in the Manoteras business district. Designed to foster collaboration and innovation, this new site is BREEAM “Very Good” certified, reflecting high environmental and energy performance standards. Spread across 3,500 m², the premises accommodate more than 280 workstations, offering a modern and sustainable working environment for the growing teams.

Among the factors behind this success is Madrid’s strong international attractiveness. As one of Europe’s leading digital hubs, Madrid offers not only a highly skilled and multicultural workforce but also an outstanding quality of life for professionals choosing to settle there. Its natural and strategic connectivity with Latin America further strengthens its appeal as a bridge between continents. All the more reason for German entrepreneurs seeking the ideal spot to accelerate their international expansion to turn their eyes toward Madrid!

* BREEAM certification assesses the environmental performance of buildings based on criteria such as energy efficiency, water management, greenhouse gas emissions, indoor air quality, and the use of sustainable materials.
