At the end of 2003, EPI Europrop International Madrid S.L. was officially inaugurated. Just over 20 years later, the site — originally conceived as a simple liaison office for its parent company based in Munich, Germany — has evolved into a full-fledged technical and logistics service center.
A consortium of Europe’s four leading engine manufacturers (Industria de Turbo Propulsores, MTU Aero Engines, Rolls-Royce, and Safran Aircraft Engines), Europrop International GmbH was established in 2002 to develop and produce the TP400-D6, a three-shaft turboprop engine designed to power the Airbus A400M military aircraft. One year later, the legal entity EPI Europrop International Madrid S.L. was created, with the mission of acting as a local interface between the consortium and Airbus Military in Spain.
Located in San Fernando de Henares, in the Madrid region, EPI Europrop International Madrid S.L. initially served as a liaison and technical support office, coordinating engineering activities with Airbus Military Iberica, preparing maintenance operations, and managing the logistics of spare parts for TP400-D6 engines operating in Spain.
From the mid-2010s, the site gained greater importance with the first deliveries of the TP400-D6 to Spain, which came with increased local support needs and a growing demand for coordinated maintenance operations in Madrid.
2017: A Turning Point for EPI Madrid
In 2017, the signing of a new agreement with OCCAR-EA (Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation – Executive Administration) marked a turning point, giving the Madrid site a broader role in providing operational and logistical support not only in Europe, but also in Asia. This new status was further confirmed when Madrid hosted the first TP400 User Conference, which brought together clients and partners from around the world (Malaysia, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and others).
Over the past five years, the workforce at EPI Madrid has grown by around 50% — a clear reflection of the company’s expanding activities: basic maintenance, after-sales support, and the development of new administrative and commercial functions to manage contracts and customer relations.
Based in a dynamic industrial environment, the company continues to leverage the attractiveness of the Madrid region to drive its growth.
What’s Next?
EPI Europrop International Madrid is expected to continue along this path, with:
- The ongoing recruitment of specialized profiles.
- Active participation in A400M-related industry events (including the Operators Conference in Germany in 2025).
- Support of a fleet of more than 130 TP400-D6 engines in service.
