1.- Could you give us a brief summary of the company?
Mexicana de Franquicias is the leading Mexican gastronomy group in Spain. It is responsible for the development and expansion of brands such as La Mordida, Ricos Tacos and SuperTaco, offering authentic Mexican food experiences in different business formats. The company has established itself in Madrid as a reference in themed restaurants, with a proposal based on quality, innovation and loyalty to traditional recipes.
2.- What are the company’s main lines of business?
Mexicana de Franquicias operates under different business models adapted to different customer profiles:
La Mordida: Full dining restaurant with a vibrant and 100% traditional concept, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary. La Mordida is a chain of franchises and there is a Central that is in charge of the management of the brand, as we have our own restaurants and franchises. Like many chains, La Mordida started as a restaurant and then, with the success of the business, we opened more of our own restaurants and decided to franchise the concept. We currently have 3 franchised restaurants and 5 of our own.
Ricos Tacos: Fast food taqueria with a more agile and urban approach.
SuperTaco: Tex-Mex cantina with a versatile and casual approach.
Food Trucks: Expansion at events, festivals and fairs, bringing the Mexican experience to more audiences.
Dark Kitchens: Expansion to new cities through delivery.
3.- What year did you start operations in Spain and how have you managed to position yourself in Madrid?
La Mordida opened its first restaurant in the Madrid region in 1995, quickly becoming a benchmark for Mexican cuisine in the city. Over the years, the brand has grown with new openings and the development of other gastronomic concepts within the group. Today, Mexicana de Franquicias has several physical and virtual locations and continues to expand both in Madrid and in other regions of Spain.
4.- Do you have any gastronomic recognition?
Yes, Mexicana de Franquicias and its brands La Mordida and Ricos Tacos have received important awards and distinctions that endorse its commitment to authenticity, quality and innovation in Mexican gastronomy.
TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards: In 2024, five of our restaurants received awards, placing us among the top 10% of the world’s best-rated restaurants on the platform, thanks to the opinions of our customers. This recognition is something we achieve year after year.
Distinction ‘Authentically Mexican Restaurant’ from the Fundación Sabores Auténticos de México: La Mordida has received this prestigious recognition for preserving Mexican gastronomy and projecting its richness to the world. This award certifies that our restaurants offer authentic Mexican food made with traditional ingredients and recipes faithful to their origin. In addition, our team is trained to transmit the history and culture of each dish we serve.
Recognition from the Consejo de Promoción Turística de México (CPTM): La Mordida has been distinguished as ‘Representative of Mexican gastronomy’, highlighting our work in Madrid as ambassadors of Mexican cuisine, not only through our dishes, but also in the ambience of our spaces, the drinks and the complete experience we offer our customers.
Audacious Taco of the Year’ award at the I Campeonato de Tacos de España: Ricos Tacos has been awarded for its Taco de Atún Endiablado, an innovative proposal that fuses tradition and creativity in a single bite. This award recognises the brand’s ability to reinvent Mexican cuisine, combining high quality ingredients with a spicy and fresh touch.

5.- Why did you choose Madrid as one of your key locations?
Madrid is a city with a great gastronomic culture and a growing demand for international experiences, which made it the ideal place to consolidate the presence of our brands. In addition, its dynamism and diversity have allowed us to connect with a large and loyal audience over the years.
6.- How many jobs do you expect to generate in Madrid in the short and medium term, and what kind of profiles do you need?
Our expansion foresees the generation of around a hundred new jobs in the coming years, with opportunities for different profiles:
Kitchen and dining room staff, with experience in the hotel and catering industry and a vocation for service.
Management and administration profiles for the supervision of the premises.
7.- What would you recommend to other foreign investors who are thinking of opening their business in Madrid?
Madrid is a city with a dynamic market and open to foreign investment, but success depends on a good adaptation to the local client. We recommend a good understanding of market trends,
to bet on differentiation and take advantage of the resources offered by the Madrid’s Region to facilitate investment and expansion.
8.- How do you see the franchise ecosystem in the Madrid’s Region?
The franchise ecosystem is very strong, growing year after year in terms of number of stores, turnover, employees, etc. Specifically in our sector, there is a wide variety of national and international brands.
