This was highlighted by Luis Socías, Director General of Invest in Madrid, during the closing ceremony of the ABC Top 100 SME Executives Awards 2025, held yesterday at the ABC headquarters. The initiative, launched by this newspaper, was created to highlight Spain’s business fabric and recognise the true driving force behind the Spanish economy.
The figures speak for themselves. The nearly three million SMEs operating in our country represent almost 99% of Spain’s total business fabric. As the newspaper ABC points out, SMEs “are the true backbone of our economy, the symbol of the Spain that gets up early, produces, and builds the future from a present full of effort, ideas, and dreams.”
Ana Delgado, ABC’s Director General, opened the event, which was also attended by Eduardo Currás, Deputy General Manager of Banco Sabadell; Emilio Duró, founding partner of ITER Consultores, who inspired all attendees with a motivational speech; and Luis Socías, Director General of Invest in Madrid, who presented the awards corresponding to positions 10 to 4 in the ABC TOP 100 SME Executives ranking. He also closed the event and highlighted the regional government’s policies aimed at promoting business growth.
The Region of Madrid offers a business environment committed to reducing bureaucracy and excessive regulation. Recognised for its progressive business climate, and as a testament to the regional government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to business growth and foreign investment, Madrid provides legal certainty and institutional stability for investors — essential pillars for investing with confidence.
The event also featured two round tables with leading speakers, including Natalia Chuela, Mayor of Zaragoza; Francisco Vidal, Director of Economic Affairs and Sectoral Policies at CEPYME; Diego Crescente, Director General of EOI; Salvador Cayón, Commercial Director of HP Spain; Rafa Gonzalo, Co-founder and Co-CEO of ThePowerMBA; and Oscar Lara, Director of the Business Network at Banco Sabadell’s Central Regional Division. They discussed “How to boost SMEs today” and “the real drivers of competitive growth in SMEs: talent, technology, and strategic decision-making.”
