Spanish airline Iberojet will inaugurate a new direct flight between Querétaro, Mexico, and Madrid, Spain. This route, which will directly connect Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport with Querétaro Intercontinental Airport, represents a key step in strengthening ties between the two regions.
Similarly, other airlines, such as Canadian carrier Air Transat, are enhancing connectivity between Mexico and Europe with an exclusive route between Montreal and Guadalajara, as well as expanding their Montreal–Madrid service to cover part of the winter season.
These new air routes will strengthen connectivity between Europe and Mexico. Moreover, they open up new opportunities for outbound tourism and will boost the arrival of Mexican travelers to the region.
Querétaro’s governor, Mauricio Kuri González, announced that Spain is the state’s second-largest trading partner, “with more than 200 companies established in the region.” With this new route operated by Iberojet, he said, the goal is to promote “quality tourism between brotherly peoples and joint growth in the tourism, industrial, business, and commercial sectors.”
For its part, the Madrid region is set to be one of the main beneficiaries of this increase in connectivity. It is an open and welcoming region, with a robust economy, cutting-edge infrastructure, and a talented and diverse labor market. Its geostrategic position as a gateway between Europe and Latin America also offers an unmatched platform for business expansion.
The region is not only the political and cultural heart of Spain but also the nerve center of its economic activity. In recent years, the Madrid region has consolidated its position as Spain’s economic engine, one of the most attractive markets in Europe (4th largest EU economy by GDP), and an ideal size for deploying new technologies and industrial activities.
The arrival of more Mexican tourists not only stimulates Madrid’s economy but also expands investment opportunities and strengthens the tourism sector. In the past year, the of Madrid region welcomed 15.1 million visitors, of whom 8.82 million were international, generating over €16.117 billion in spending. It boasts 15 shopping areas of tourist interest, 193 museums and art galleries, 474 heritage-listed cultural landmarks, and over 32,000 food and beverage establishments. Additionally, it is home to 36 Michelin stars across 28 restaurants.
