Presentation of the Barometer of Italian Investments in the Madrid Region

Italy consolidates its position as the fifth largest foreign investor in Spain, with an FDI stock exceeding 48 billion euros

Today, at the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment of the Madrid Region, the First Edition of the “Barometer of Italian Investments in Madrid” was presented. The event was organized by Invest in Madrid and the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Spain, under the auspices of the Embassy of Italy in Madrid and prepared by AFI – International Financial Analysts.

During the event, we were joined by several distinguished guests, including the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Italy in Spain, Ms. Simona Battiloro; the First Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Madrid, Ms. Eva Serrano; and the Director General for Economy and Industry of the Madrid Region, Mr. Jaime Martínez Muñoz, who delivered the closing remarks.

AFI, International Financial Analysts, presented the Barometer of Italian Investment in the Madrid Region, highlighting several key findings such as:

  • Italy has consolidated its position as the fifth largest foreign investor in Spain, with an FDI stock exceeding 48 billion euros.
  • The Madrid Region concentrates the largest volume of Italian FDI, with 26.8 billion euros accumulated since 1993.
  • In the first half of 2025, Madrid received 39 million euros, representing 20% of the national total.
  • Italy’s direct investment in Madrid has contributed to the creation and maintenance of 32,000 jobs.

A roundtable discussion followed, moderated by the Director General of Invest in Madrid, Luis Socías, and featuring the participation of Iveco, Italfarmaco, Italtel, and Finanzauto—Italian companies with a long-standing and significant presence in the Madrid Region. These companies showcased the various business initiatives they have been developing in our region and the reasons that led them to invest here in recent years.

All of them highlighted the opportunities that our region offers as a destination for attracting foreign investment, such as talent, strategic location, regional government stability, strong public–private collaboration, and legal certainty.

Furthermore, each participant closed their intervention with a headline about the Madrid Region, reflecting the institutions’ confidence in the regional administration and the Madrid model:
