Furthermore, since 2010, the region has recorded growth of 7.9%, almost three times higher than the national average of 2.8%.
The Regional Minister for Economy, Finance and Employment, Rocío Albert, inaugurated the second edition of Subcon, an event organized by the Metalia Group in collaboration with the Madrid Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Metal Trade and Industry Companies of Madrid (AECIM). Over the course of two days, the event brings together more than 125 companies from 10 countries, with over 600 meetings scheduled to foster partnerships and strategic agreements.
Albert highlighted that Madrid has risen over the past decade from being Spain’s fourth-largest industrial powerhouse to second place, now home to nearly 17,500 companies employing more than 316,000 workers. Today, the sector accounts for 8.8% of the region’s Gross Value Added (GVA), a higher share than in other comparable European regions such as Brussels, Île-de-France, or Amsterdam.
The Minister for Economy also noted that the new 2026–2030 Industrial Plan will promote the creation of specialized industrial districts in the North, South, and the Henares Corridor. Measures will include local tax incentives, support for technology transfer and internationalization, and strengthening Madrid’s position as a leader in strategic sectors such as aerospace, biopharmaceuticals, electronic components, and information technologies.
The Madrid Region already concentrates nearly 23% of Spain’s leading high- and medium-high-technology companies, offers the highest average salary in the country (€3,527), and generated 19,500 new jobs over the past year. These industries not only create wealth and employment, but also drive knowledge transfer, specialization, and opportunities for thousands of SMEs.
