This is reflected in an oral report prepared by the Regional Ministry of Digitalization and presented to the Governing Council, which analyzes the evolution of digital infrastructure between 2023 and 2026.
Connectivity in the Madrid Region has experienced a decisive advance during this period with the expansion of FTTH (Fiber to the Home) optical fiber networks, which now reach 99.9%. This development enables the provision of ultra-fast and stable connections directly to households. In this regard, the report notes that 85% of municipalities have coverage levels above 95%. Likewise, the regional government has launched public programs in recent years, such as the UNICO Broadband initiative, with the aim that the dozen localities that have not yet reached this percentage can achieve similar levels in the short term.
Similarly, access to audiovisual services has been strengthened through a new contract to extend digital terrestrial television coverage in remote and peri-urban areas, benefiting nearly 400,000 citizens. This measure guarantees the reception of all channels under optimal conditions of quality and reliability, even in areas with geographical constraints.
The progress of 5G is not only reflected in its widespread availability, but also in the improvement of service quality, thanks to the deployment of more advanced networks that enable faster, more stable connections with greater capacity to handle a growing volume of devices and data. Investments through the UNICO programs, financed with European Next Generation funds, have mobilized nearly €21 million in this area.
