The Madrid Region Highlights Young Talent as a Driver of Economic Growth

The Regional Minister for Economy, Finance and Employment of the Madrid Region, Rocío Albert, has emphasized the importance of young talent as a driver of economic growth.

Speaking at the opening of the 3rd Hackathon organized by the public Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC) at its Móstoles campus, Albert encouraged young people to take the step into entrepreneurship. She also recalled measures such as the “Zero Rate” for the self-employed, through which the region covers Social Security contributions during the first year, as well as €36 million in direct aid allocated to this group.

The minister highlighted the role of the public administration as a “partner” of talent within an ecosystem that includes more than 2,100 technology startups. She also underscored the historic record of 441,000 self-employed workers in the region, an unemployment rate of 7%, and Madrid’s leadership in business creation. With projected growth of 3.2% in 2026—above both the Spanish and European averages—the region is consolidating its position as the country’s leading economy, contributing nearly 20% of the national GDP.
