The President of the Madrid Region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, highlighted the success of the event’s organisation on Sunday: “This is the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, which means it belongs to everyone. In addition to creating tens of thousands of jobs, this event generates more than €500 million in investment and €80 million in direct tax revenues and, above all, shows the world what Spaniards are capable of achieving when we are given the opportunity to organise major events.”
The Orchestra and Choir of the Madrid Region (ORCAM) performed the Spanish national anthem on the starting grid on Sunday. Under the direction of Alondra de la Parra, the ensemble brought together 60 musicians and 40 choir members.
This official performance in front of the drivers and authorities marked the beginning of an event that represents the return of this motor racing competition to the region after 45 years.
Public transport exceeds expectations
According to the figures accumulated throughout the weekend, Metro de Madrid has exceeded the passenger forecasts made for this major sporting event.
As of 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, more than 124,000 passengers had chosen the suburban rail network to travel to the MADRING circuit.
Once again, public transport in the Madrid Region has demonstrated its ability to move large numbers of passengers quickly, comfortably and safely, even during events of this scale.
