Díaz Ayuso welcomes the NFL’s return to the region for the second consecutive year: “Madrid is ready for anything”

The President of the Madrid Region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, today welcomed the return of the National Football League (NFL) to the region for the second consecutive year

The Madrid Region has signed a cooperation protocol with the NFL to consolidate its position as a multi-year host of the competition in Spain, under the agreement reached by both institutions. The signing will allow a regular-season game to be held this year at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium and also includes the staging of another game in 2027, establishing Madrid as the NFL’s exclusive base in the country during that period.

Díaz Ayuso has praised the impact and international projection that this event represents for the region, stressing that “Madrid is ready for anything,” thanks to its “cheerful, welcoming spirit, which always puts its best foot forward to ensure everything goes well,” demonstrating “the unity and the magic that exists between Americans and the people of Madrid.”

“Madrid wins everyone over with its nightlife, gastronomy, museums and culture,” emphasized the head of the regional government, who highlighted everything that can be “done and dreamed on a grand scale” with an event of this kind.

The regional government sees American football as a strategic tool to boost the Madrid tourism brand, attract international visitors, and strengthen the region’s global positioning as a host of major sporting events.

The first NFL Madrid Game, held on November 16, 2025, marked the arrival of the National Football League in Spain and brought together 78,610 spectators, nearly half of whom came from abroad, with the United States among the main source markets.

According to available data, 78% of tourists stayed in the Community of Madrid for an average of four nights, while the remaining 22% stayed for two nights, generating an economic impact of $1.7 million, mainly in accommodation and transport.
