Díaz Ayuso welcomes Woody Allen as he begins filming his new movie in Madrid: “We are a region that loves art, cinema, music and life”

President of the Madrid Region Isabel Díaz Ayuso has welcomed American filmmaker Woody Allen on the occasion of the filming of his upcoming movie, which will begin this Monday and will be shot primarily in the capital and in Aranjuez

Díaz Ayuso expressed her pride that the filmmaker had chosen the Madrid Region, “a region that loves art, cinema, music and life, with a strong cultural spirit and made up of people from every corner of Spain”. Díaz Ayuso attended the presentation of the filming today at the Sala Roja at Teatros del Canal, where she presented the director of Annie Hall, a renowned music lover, with a Spanish guitar made by Manuel Rodríguez. The craftsman, whose family has more than 120 years of tradition in the manufacture of this instrument, was recently honoured with the Culture Award in the Historical Heritage category.

The regional government will sponsor the film as part of its support for the audiovisual industry, a strategic sector that generates employment, investment, tourism and innovation. The industry accounts for 2.2% of the region’s GDP and has a total economic impact of more than €7.5 billion. Last year, 2,100 filming projects took place in the Madrid Region, 10% more than the previous year, highlighting the region’s appeal as a filming destination.

The President stressed that the film industry provides quality jobs and helps showcase Madrid to the world and place the region on international circuits, “now more than ever, in every aspect of culture and life”. “We are enormously proud because it enables young people from here and from other parts of the world, as well as new projects at any stage of life, to come together here,” she emphasised.

Four-time Academy Award-winning American director and screenwriter Woody Allen gives a prominent role to the cities in which his films are set, as seen in Manhattan, Midnight in Paris and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. This distinctive feature of his filmography helps audiences discover the identity of the places depicted on screen and sparks interest in visiting them.

The film will be produced by Wanda Visión, Gravier Productions Inc. and 3Six9 Studios, with the support of Screen Capital and Never Summer Range. Wanda Visión will also handle the film’s distribution in Spanish cinemas, while Daresay and WestEnd Films will jointly manage international sales.
