Invest in Madrid celebrates the first meeting of animation sector companies

Madrid is not only at the forefront of audiovisual animation companies, but it is also the preferred region in Spain for some of the leading animation companies.

The Madrid’s region has become a benchmark in the animation and visual effects (VFX) industry in Spain and Europe. It houses over 30% of the sector’s companies nationwide, making it the primary production hub in the country.

This dense concentration highlights the region’s role in leading innovation, thanks to a deep pool of specialized talent, cutting-edge technology, and a solid ecosystem that spans from training and software development to post-production and distribution.

Our region is a magnet for actors, directors, cinematographers, animators, video game developers, artists, and technical personnel, attracted by its cultural vitality and professional opportunities.

Many of them gathered today at our office to participate in a meeting of animation sector companies, where they were able to discuss their presence in Madrid and their current and future challenges.

The event’s presentation and welcome were led by Luis Socías, Managing Director of Invest in Madrid, who highlighted the importance of this sector for the Madrid’s region, along with Gonzalo Cabrera, Managing Director of Culture and Creative Industries, and Jaime Martínez, Managing Director of Industrial Promotion.

Other speakers included Manuel Cristóbal, film producer, Ignacio Carballo, Audiovisual Industry Advisor of the Madrid’s region, and Xiomara García, General Coordinator of Film Madrid.

A big thank you to the attending companies for such a fruitful meeting: Capitán Araña, Digitoonz, Iberseries, Voxel School, Morgana Studios, Illusorium, The SPA Studios, El Guiri Studios, Lightbox Animation Studios, Skydance, Raised by Monsters, Able and Baker Studios, Ottom Ideas, Cluster Audiovisual de Madrid, Sygnatia, and Beauty & The Bit.

On the other hand, Madrid has been the birthplace of internationally recognized productions such as “Tadeo, the Lost Explorer” from Lightbox Animation Studios, “Buñuel in the Labyrinth of the Turtles” from Sygnatia, and the acclaimed “Klaus” from The SPA Studios. These works have significantly contributed to the global reputation of Spanish animation.

Additionally, the regional government has implemented various initiatives to foster the sector’s growth. Programs like Next Lab Generation aim to integrate art and technology, driving innovation in animation and video games. The Madrid’s region also offers grant programs dedicated to creative development in the creation, design, and programming phases of animation and video game projects.

Our region is home to specialized educational institutions such as Voxel School, a university center dedicated to digital arts. This center, affiliated with the University of Deusto and associated with the Complutense University of Madrid, offers programs in digital animation, video games, and visual effects, contributing to the training of highly qualified professionals.

In short, the Madrid’s region not only leads the animation industry in Spain but also positions itself as a key player in the international arena, supported by a robust ecosystem of companies, talent, and institutional support.
