On the second day of the regional leader’s institutional trip to the North American country, both officials shared areas of cooperation in cultural, tourism, and economic matters. Díaz Ayuso and Rojo de la Vega signed the “letter of friendship,” recognizing the ties that unite “two nations, cities, and sister communities” that move forward together with a “special commitment to governing from the same perspective of freedom, democracy, and citizen participation.”
Mayor of this central borough of the Mexican capital since 2024, Rojo de la Vega was awarded this year at the Community of Madrid’s March 8 Honors for her defense of women’s rights and freedom. With a population of approximately 130 million inhabitants, Mexico is a priority market for the regional government, considering that in 2025, 650,000 Mexicans traveled to Madrid—11.7% more than the previous year. Mexican tourists account for 7.6% of all visitors to the region.
Cuauhtémoc is one of the 16 territorial boroughs into which Mexico City is divided. It includes the city’s historic center, and its area represents 2% of the total, with a population of more than half a million inhabitants.
