With the same objective in mind, Novillo also highlighted the importance of the work being carried out by the regional government to amend the Forestry and Nature Conservation Act in order to strengthen the prevention of and response to wildfires, as announced by President Díaz Ayuso during the State of the Region Debate.
Novillo explained that “more than 50% of the region’s territory is forested. Through this amendment, we will work to ensure that the legislation adapts to the new environmental, economic and social challenges we face.” The new legislation will therefore strengthen forest planning, contribute to wildfire prevention and introduce measures to streamline administrative procedures, enabling more agile action in natural areas, particularly when urgent intervention is required.
