The Community of Madrid travels to South Korea and opens avenues for exchange in technology, education and tourism of exchange in technology, education and tourism.

The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, positions Madrid as a ‘gateway to Europe and America’ for Asian investors, and meets with fifty investors and businesspeople in Seoul, at a meeting organised by Invest in Madrid.

After five fruitful days in South Korea, we conclude the institutional trip to the Asian country with the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and organised by Invest in Madrid, in which we have attended various meetings with investors, educational centres and technology companies with the aim of attracting new projects to the region.

During this mission, new avenues of collaboration have been opened to work in technology, housing, health and education, such as the following:

Presentation of the Catalogue of Strategic Projects, designed to attract the attention of international investors with the aim of boosting Madrid’s economy and projecting it towards new opportunities worldwide. This presentation took place within the framework of a meeting with fifty investors and businessmen in South Korea, and highlighted projects such as:

  • Madrid Nuevo Norte, the most ambitious urban development project in Europe.
  • The City of Justice, to revolutionise Madrid’s judicial system.
  • The Health City, which will link the La Paz Hospital with the Autonomous University and will innovate in medicine and research.

Meeting with Warner Music Korea to invite its artists, composers and producers to explore Madrid as a setting for music videos, concerts and major events.

Visit to the headquarters of the multinational Samsung, and meeting with the company’s global vice-president, Jun Heo, to present the competitive advantages and opportunities offered by Madrid as a strategic investment destination in southern Europe. In this regard, according to Eurostat, the region is the third in the EU and the first in Spain in terms of the number of professionals in high-tech sectors, with 271,600 jobs in 2023, 29.4% of the national total.

Meeting with the Governor of Gyeonggi, Kim Dong-yeon, to strengthen cooperation ties and seek investment opportunities and new projects between the two regions.

Visit to the Seoul Arts Center, the most representative multicultural artistic complex in South Korea, where a meeting was held with its president, Hyoung-Joo, to present the Ballet Español de la Comunidad de Madrid, and the Madrid project for the preservation of the heritage of Spanish dance in its academic, stylised, folk, bolero and flamenco forms.

Visit to the Hyundai Motor Company facilities in Goyang, where in addition to a tour of the automotive factory, a meeting was held with the company’s vice-president, Ilbum Kim, with the aim of continuing to position the region as a pole of attraction for investment.

Strengthening of tourist relations between the Community of Madrid and South Korea with the launch of a fourth frequency on the route between Seoul and the capital of Spain. Korean Air, the main airline in the Asian country, has replaced the route it operated with Barcelona to strengthen its relationship with Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas Airport.

This increase in supply is due to the interest that Madrid and Spain arouse in South Korea and its premiere generates greater fluidity in the weekly direct flights between the two capitals.

Ratification of a protocol with LG Electronics for Madrid to lead the application of Artificial Intelligence and digitalisation in the public sector and access the latest technology to improve the Administration, the economy and the lives of the people of Madrid.

Madrid continues to grow, and is positioning itself as a global benchmark thanks to the leadership of our President Isabel Díaz Ayuso. A Madrid that is increasingly international and full of opportunities.
