The Madrid Region invests €16.3 million in its Drone Ecosystem Development Strategy to become a European leader in the sector

The Madrid Region will invest €16.3 million in its Drone Ecosystem Development Strategy, with the aim of becoming a European leader in the sector.

This was highlighted by the Regional Minister for Economy, Finance and Employment, Rocío Albert, during her visit to the facilities of Alpha Unmanned Systems in San Sebastián de los Reyes.

During the visit, Albert toured the company’s workshop and flight simulator. The company specialises in the design, manufacturing and operation of unmanned aircraft, and she highlighted its work as an example of the “type of high-value-added industry that we should continue to attract and retain.”

The regional government’s Plan comprises 14 initiatives grouped into four areas — regulation, infrastructure, talent and competitiveness — and includes €10 million in new funding for manufacturers. The grants can be used to improve facilities, develop prototypes and access international markets, among other initiatives.

It also includes a one-stop shop bringing together all the procedures and permits required to operate in the Community of Madrid, as well as an incubation and acceleration programme to support entrepreneurs from the earliest stages of their projects.

The Drone Ecosystem Development Strategy also places a strong focus on specialised training. The regional government will invest €1.5 million to train future professionals in the sector in areas such as agriculture, IT, security and transport. All these initiatives will be incorporated into the future 2026–2030 Industrial Plan.
