The Madrid Region travels to Japan to continue attracting investment and strengthening its position as an international economic hub

The Community of Madrid travels to Japan next week to strengthen economic and trade relations, attract investment and new projects to the region, and reinforce its position as an international economic hub

The Regional Minister for Economy, Finance and Employment, Rocío Albert, will begin a five-day official visit to the Asian country this Monday with this objective, accompanied by Luis Socías, Managing Director of Invest in Madrid.

Albert will hold meetings with institutions, business leaders, representatives of international companies and startups to showcase the regional government’s commitment to attracting Japanese investment and promoting high value-added industrial sectors. The agenda includes meetings with representatives of leading Japanese companies such as Canon, Mitsubishi, Ebara and NTT, among others, as well as Spanish companies recognised for their international expansion, such as Gestamp.

The Regional Minister for Economy, Finance and Employment will also meet with the Ambassador of Spain to Japan, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Governor of Aichi Prefecture, continuing the collaboration agreement signed in July 2024 by President Díaz Ayuso with this prefecture. The agreement was signed at the Royal Post Office (Real Casa de Correos), the headquarters of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid.

Japan is the leading Asian investor in Spain and, consequently, in the Community of Madrid, which has attracted more than 74% of Japanese capital since Díaz Ayuso became president — more than €2.86 billion. Furthermore, out of the €14.732 billion in Japanese investment stock in Spain in 2024, Madrid accounts for 72.4%, with €10.668 billion. In terms of employment, the region concentrates almost one in every four jobs (24.6%) created by Japanese companies in Spain, with 13,616 positions.
